The goalkeeper Courtois is confident his refusal to come back to Chelsea will be rewarded with a move to Real Madrid after he extended his nonappearance into a second day. The 26-year-old needs to join Real Madrid however knows a deal can only go through if his club replace him first.
Thibaut Courtois is desperate to move back to the Spanish capital to be closer to his two children.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim Courtois is now waiting on Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to call him. The report says The 26-year-old is in Tenerife and is refusing to return to Chelsea training. The club decided to open disciplinary proceedings against Courtois, who has made it clear he wants out this summer.
Christophe Henrotay, Courtois’ agent, has recently explained why the 26-year-old goalkeeper is desperate to move:
“I have been reading everywhere that Chelsea are saying it is up to Thibaut, but he has made it clear to the club that the best option for him is to move to Madrid,” Henrotay said.
“For him this is a big decision because he wants to be near his family, and there is an offer in place for Chelsea to accept.
“Chelsea could get a fair fee for him now and sign a replacement.
“Or they would still have to sign a replacement next summer, but without getting a fee for Thibaut.”
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri refused to shed light on the future of Thibaut Courtois.
