This video surrounds the negative SIDE of horse racing. Do keep in mind that this side can be large or small depending on location, type of event, and other factors. The only thing that matters in this part is big name industry and money. Most of these owners, breeders, and jockeys are only there for the money. Please note that there are plenty of family businesses that treat their horses wonderfully. I am directing my attention to the industry and big-name racing.
At ‘Under-Tack Shows’, young horses are sprinted at speeds that are very dangerous to the horse’s legs, tendons, and skeletal structure (which are not fully developed at this stage). They are used to show potential buyers the fresh blood that will be entering the track.
Many standard practices in this industry where the horses are pumped full of drugs and steroids to enhance performance and hide injury. Death and injury are common and business as usual. From birth to death, most racing horses are treated as disposable items.
Many jockeys will over-whip horses or use illegal battery shocking devices while racing the horses. American Pharaoh was whipped 32 times on the home stretch of the Kentucky Derby.
Look at the horses in the paddock before the race, take note of how much tack and leather they have on their heads. Chains in their mouth, across the upper gum-line. Straps tied around the lower jaw, through the mouth. The amount of headgear is unbelievable and unnecessary. There is a place for chains with young or hyper horses (such as calming/twitch methods), but often they are overused or used incorrectly. Chains and certain headgear will correlate with an activity, whether good or bad. When chains are put on young racehorses, they will become stressed and high-strung, associating it with a race.
Much if this video depicts horses stumbling and acting out. This would not happen if there was a reason behind it. They act out due to pain or fear, then they are labeled as dangerous or high-strung and that results in more chains and leather on there head to control them. Horses do trip or stumble, but they usually do not collapse or break something. It takes a lot to bring a four-legged animal of that size down. This goes to show that horses are too young to have this physical stress on their legs or body in much if the horse racing world. Horses will often strain tendons or their lungs will bleed after a strenuous race, they are too young.
I have a few music videos on horse racing, but I do not support the sport and industry it has become in our day. I support the idea and the good side and good people in the sport. The idea of racing horses is fine in a good light and if the horses were raced at the appropriate age.
